The sanctuary of Fátima is a place of pilgrimage, in memory of the event of the apparitions of our Lady to the three little shepherds. The pastoral care of pilgrims is a primordial element of your mission.
The chapel was built in 1919 on the site of the apparitions in 1917 in the Cova da Iria, and, since then, the space of the sanctuary was built in response to the significant influx of pilgrims.
The monastery of Batalha was the center of historic memorable moments, has traces of occupation ranging Paleolithic to the Roman presence, to the fightings until the independence. All of these events leads to a compelling cultural heritage.
The victory of the battle of Aljubarrota, on August 14 1385, was what prompted the construction of the monastery of Batalha, one of the most visited monuments of Portugal. It is a jewel of World Heritage.
